Lake Ranau is the second-largest lake in Sumatra, Indonesia, located on the border between South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (South Sumatra) and West Lampung Regency (Lampung Province). Nestled among hills and lush forests, this volcanic lake was formed by a massive volcanic eruption and subsequent tectonic movements.

Around the lake overgrown with various shrub by local residents called Ranau. Then the lake was called Lake Ranau. The rest of the volcano is now becomes Seminung Mountain that stands firmly on the edge of the clear water lake. On the other side at the foot of the mountain Seminung there are hot springs on the bottom of the lake. Around the lake can also be found Subik waterfall. Another interesting place to visit is Marisa Island.

Lake Ranau for the lives of local fishermen

This famous lake is often visited by the fisherman to catch fishes like Tilapia, Kepor, Kepiat and Harongan. Right in the middle of the lake there is Pulau Marisa or Marisa Island. There is a hot spring that oftenly used by locals or tourists who come to the island. For those who want to stay, do not worry about the accommodation, for there is a waterfall, and lodging. Ranau Lake is the widest one in South Sumatra. It is around 8×16 km2 in width with the scene of Mount Semiung on its behind. It is also surrounded by hills and valleys. Moreover, its water is so clear. The lake is a result of a natural process. It comes from an earthquake and volcanic explosion that created huge shale.

There is natural hot water at the feet of Mount Semiung, which comes from the bottom of the lake. A waterfall, the Subik, can also be seen around the lake. Lake Ranau locates on the border of the District of West Lampung, the Province of Lampung.

The lake can be threaded with private car from Bandar Lampung through Kemuning and Liwa Hills. The road is already asphalted yet it curves all the way, at the border of the District of OKU precisely (on the southern part of South Sumatra Province and West Lampung District, Lampung Province). People can also reach the site with different routes. It is more or less 324 km from the city of Palembang, around 130 km from the city of Baturaja, and 50 km from Muara Dua.
